Our Story
Rooted in the Dolomites, shaped by craft, and named after a cat named Phillip.
Core Values of Phillip's Daughter
1. Enduring Craft
We create with care, not speed. Our work is built to endure—physically, aesthetically, and emotionally—through time, trend, and generations.
2. Natural Integrity
We honor the beauty of raw materials. Hardwood, leather, cotton, and horsehair are chosen not only for their longevity, but for how they soften, age, and carry memory.
3. Rooted in Place
Inspired by the alpine architecture and rhythms of the Dolomite mountains, our design language is grounded in clarity, warmth, and stillness—shaped by the land that first gave it meaning.
4. Quiet Luxury
We believe true luxury is understated. It lives in the curve of a backrest, the weight of a drawer pull, the silence of good design. Nothing is excessive. Everything is intentional.
5. Emotional Design
Our pieces are made to feel, not just function. From the story of Phillip, Olivia's rescued Norwegian Forest cat, to the emotional resonance of materials—soul is part of the structure.
6. Thoughtful Collaboration
We work with artisans, makers, and partners who share our belief in patience, integrity, and a reverence for process. Every hand involved is part of the story.
7. Slower Living
We design for people who seek presence—who believe home is a sanctuary and objects can hold space for peace, pause, and deeper connection.
The idea for Phillip's Daughter began on a ski lift high in the Italian Alps—where the pine huts sit on snow, with hints of animals and people who have passed by.
While traveling through the Dolomites near Val Gardena, Olivia, a trained industrial designer and graduate of Pratt Institute, was captivated by more than the views. The Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site, are known not only for their dramatic peaks and wild flora, but also for a phenomenon unique to these mountains. At sunrise and sunset, the bare, pale-grey rock faces are lit with hues of pink, mauve, and gold—a natural display called enrosadira (from rosa, the Italian word for "pink"). This soft alpenglow is caused by the dolomite and magnesium-rich stone catching the sun's final light, transforming the mountains into living sculpture.
This quiet spectacle—the harmony between permanence and ephemerality, stone and sky—left an imprint.
As Olivia moved through mountain villages, she began to see how the region's furniture mirrored its surroundings: built to last, crafted by hand, and marked by both restraint and reverence. These weren't decorative objects. They were part of the rhythm of life—simple, tactile, lasting. Inspired by this way of living and making, Olivia returned home with a vision for a design studio rooted in the same ideals.
Phillip's Daughter was born from that vision.
Named after Olivia's beloved rescued Norwegian Forest cat, Phillip—a creature of Nordic elegance and quiet companionship—the studio reflects a deep connection to place, to story, and to the natural world.

Every piece of furniture is designed to echo the Dolomites: clear in form and grounded in material. Crafted from hardwoods, natural leathers, cottons, and horsehair, our work carries forward the alpine ethos of thoughtful construction, warmth, and calm.
We build with beauty and endurance in mind—just like the mountains that inspired us.
At Phillip's Daughter, our furniture is crafted from materials chosen for their natural character, timeless quality, and ability to age with grace. We work exclusively with non-synthetic components—materials that breathe, soften, and deepen over time.
Ash & Walnut Hardwood
Locally and responsibly sourced. We favor species with distinctive grain, structural integrity, and quiet strength—wood that holds both history and possibility.
Vegetable-Tanned Leather
Naturally processed without harmful chemicals, our leathers are rich in texture and depth. They patina beautifully, telling the story of time and touch.
Cushions & Upholstery
Pure, durable, and soft to the hand. We use a mix of cotton and horsehair in our upholstery—never synthetic.
Horsehair
A traditional, resilient upholstery material used for centuries. We use horsehair for its structure, breathability, and natural spring—luxury without compromise.
Fabrics
Our upholstery pieces feature textiles from the Vladimiro collection by Dedar. Ultra-soft velvet in Kid Mohair: a fine precious fiber, lustrous and impurity free, obtained from the first shear of the Angora goat. It combines tactile and aesthetic qualities with easy care. This velvet is naturally durable and has fire-retardant properties.

Stains & Wood Finishes
We finish each piece with a satin wood stain made of linseed oil—not only to enhance the grain and depth of the wood, but to honor centuries-old methods of preservation and care. This finish is rooted in ancient craftsmanship: it uses no synthetic sealants, no unnecessary chemicals, and no shortcuts. The satin stain we use is carefully selected to highlight, not overpower, the natural tone of the wood.
Glues and Adhesives
Every element we use is chosen with care—including what you can't see.
Any glues or adhesives used in our construction are completely non-toxic and solvent-free. We select plant-based or water-based adhesives that meet the highest environmental and health standards, ensuring they are safe for both the makers and those who live with our furniture every day.
